The OFFICE OF U.S. SENATOR MICHAEL BENNET is hiring a Military and Veterans Affairs Representative to be based in Denver or Colorado Springs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the highest level of customer/constituent service.
  • Track issues that affect Colorado servicemembers, veterans, and the military. Update and advise the State Director, Chief of Staff, and Senator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Identify priority events in the military and veterans community and ensure that the Senator is represented when appropriate, either in person by letter or by surrogate.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in DC to ensure veterans and military policy and actions are grounded in Colorado’s needs and priorities.

Outreach

  • With regional staff, build and implement a strategy for statewide veterans outreach.
  • Ensure regional staff are up-to-speed on relevant veterans issues.
  • Maintain relationships with veterans organizations, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Colorado military installations.
  • Craft letters of support, congratulations, and other acknowledgments.
  • Maintain an understanding of the Senator’s positions on key policy topics.

Constituent Services

  • Serve as a liaison between constituents and federal agencies on military and veterans casework.
  • Assist the Director of Constituent Services with the development and execution of the Senator’s academy nominations process.
  • Respond to constituent requests for information.

Desired skills/experience:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Proven multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Previous experience in public service or engagement is helpful.
  • Ability to work on tight timelines and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to travel sometimes on short notice and work odd hours and weekends as needed.

Location: Colorado Springs or Denver

Salary Range: $55,000 to $63,000
