Sur Legal Collaborative (“Sur Legal”) is an immigrant and worker rights nonprofit legal organization based in Georgia. Founded in October 2020, Sur Legal addresses the need for community-based legal advocacy at the nexus of labor, immigration, and decarceration movements in the Deep South. Sur Legal is a woman of color-led and run organization collaborating directly with communities and grassroots groups. We seek to democratize legal knowledge and to provide legal support to movements fighting for economic, racial, and social justice in the South.
Job Summary
The Grant Coordinator and Executive Assistant will assist the Operations Manager and Executive Director in maintaining the basic operational and development structure of Sur. The Grant Coordinator & Executive Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support, assisting the Operations Manager/ Legal Director with interns/externs, coordinating the organization’s grant portfolio, and assisting the Executive Director with donor communications. The Assistant will be an integral part of Sur’s team and will directly support its mission of working with grassroots organizations and communities to empower immigrants and workers to hold abusive employers accountable. Duties and assignments will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Duties
Development
- Serve as a liaison between Sur and grants/development contract team
- Responsible for coordinating grant proposals to government agencies, foundations, and corporations
- Researching, reporting, tracking and writing grants
- Manage a portfolio of sponsorship and funding prospects
- Develop and write appeals and proposals
- Maintain a pipeline of proposals
- Fulfill grant-reporting requirements as assigned
- Prepare reports to track potential and submitted grant applications
- Develop and processes grant applications for Sur Legal Collaborative along with the Executive Director and contractor team
- Evaluate grant proposals for eligibility and compliance, and develops criteria and standards to plan, implement, and evaluate proposals for grant-funded projects
- Review grant proposals to identify and resolve compliance issues
- Maintain and expand grant funding—grant research, writing, management, and reporting
- Follow current state and federal requirements for fundraising in the non-profit sector
- Plan and evaluate fundraising campaigns and activities
- Assist with special events/fundraisers as needed (i.e., Giving Tuesdays, etc)
- Build relationships with donors
- Attend prospective donor meetings and community events
- Assist the team with achieving annual corporate, foundation and government fundraising goals
- Provide regular updates to the Executive Director
Executive Assistance
- Schedule and calendar meetings for Executive Director
- Prepare and modify documents including correspondence, reports, memos, and emails;
- Prepare for Board of Directors quarterly meetings by creating agendas, minutes, and other documents; and
- Maintain organizational files and documents
- Assist Operations Manager and Legal Director with posting of internship and externship opportunities
- Check the PO mailbox in Decatur, GA on a weekly basis
- Scan and upload documents to appropriate folder and share to designee
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in social justice work
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- One to two years of administrative office experience (including internships)
- Ability to develop effective work plans, organize details, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing, including MS Office Suite
- Cultural competence in communicating and working with various and diverse individuals, including stakeholders, low-income and vulnerable populations, grassroot organizers and activists, pro bono attorneys, donors, and others as required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility to pivot between different projects based on priority
- Ability to work remotely (laptop, WiFi, etc.) during all or part of EST regular workday
- Ability to drive to events in Georgia (occasionally outside regular work hours)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision
- Strong written communication skills - ability to articulate persuasive proposals
- Excellent organizational skills in planning, prioritizing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated and takes initiative
- Acute attention to detail and able to meet deadlines
- Experience with institutional donors, knowledge of basic fundraising strategies, familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
Preferred Experience
- Previous NGO and federal grant application, submission, approval, and management of funds
- Previous experience and success with grant writing for substantial awards
- A proven record of securing major grants with certifiable references
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible clerical work
- Experience working with grant programs and writing grants; any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the knowledge and abilities
This is a part time role up to 20 hours a week.
Salary
$25 - $25 per hour
