The Role
Moderna is seeking a strategic and creative Associate Director, Communications and Media to join our growing Corporate Affairs team. You will strengthen Moderna’s communications by supporting and executing against a robust Communications strategy and acting as a key spokesperson for the Company. This role will engage directly with business, science, development, and technology leaders throughout the organization – in addition to external stakeholders. We are seeking a candidate who is highly collaborative and ready for the next step in their career , can thrive in a fast-paced and highly creative environment, while also being self-motivated and able to work as part of a team. This individual will be highly curious and energized by working in an area of emerging science, medicine and technology and thrive on helping a company tell a complex story externally in a compelling way.
They will have excellent written and verbal communications skills; have experience working with trade, local and top-tier media (ideally in the healthcare space); and be comfortable working with corporate and program teams across a dynamic organization. In addition to communicating about our platform, corporate news, pipeline and the disease areas we’re focused on, they will also help drive awareness of our commitment to corporate social responsibility. This individual will also regularly interface with and support company leaders, key business partners (HR, legal etc.) with global communications and media needs. It is imperative that this individual exercise flawless judgment and operate with boldness, responsibility, and urgency at all times.
The role will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and report to the Vice President of Communications and Media.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Day-to-day media relations support, including interfacing with journalists, developing/maintaining messaging materials including corporate press releases and acting as a Company spokesperson
Create and execute communication strategies that align with the corporate business objectives and reinforce the reputation and branding of Moderna
Support major company announcements by developing operational plans that amplify the impact globally
Support leaders across the company with highly visible media and stakeholder engagements
Increase awareness of Moderna’s leadership in mRNA science, platform, pipeline, technology and commitment to citizenship
Ensure on-time delivery of media monitoring, key message development and company press releases/materials
Work with public relations agencies to drive cohesive and aggressive media plans
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create and maintain media messaging and talking points, ensuring consistency across all external communications.
Stay informed of industry trends, competitive landscape, and media landscape to direct media strategy and tactics.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
A university degree in a relevant field of study, such as communications, journalism, political science, etc.
8-10 years of experience with a background in PR (agency or in-house)
Prior public relations experience, preferably in biopharma corporate communications
Ability to work in our Cambridge, MA office
