The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. The Team You’ll Work With
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations (DMO) works to advance the City's efforts to address policy matters across the five boroughs, coordinate operational efforts across the City's public agencies, improve access to services for all New Yorkers, and ensure agencies are run compassionately and effectively. The Deputy Mayor oversees 8 city agencies and 1 mayoral office: DOT, DEP, DSNY, DOB, DDC, SCA, Parks, TLC, and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice.
The Problems You’ll Solve
The Policy Advisor for Public Realm’s portfolio will encompass key projects, initiatives, and/or policy proposals at the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer and Deputy Mayor for Operations. These projects and initiatives represent the first-ever centralized and holistic approach to city policy, interagency coordination, communications, and stakeholder engagement focused on creating a new standard for how the City of New York approaches public space management. Advisor will perform the following functions:
- Project Management – Translate ideas into actionable plans. Manage and coordinate across City agencies and team members on a variety of projects and policy initiatives that advance public space management. Track and monitor interagency programs that touch on public realm work to ensure equity, wellness, economic recovery, and sustainability goals are met. Serve as liaison for CSO for Public Realm in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Design and Graphics – Design and create graphic and written deliverables for presentations, reports, and meetings. Assist with giving presentations to bring wider awareness to the public on how City agencies are working to improve the public realm in New York City.
- Writing and Analysis – Compile and review best practices from other cities. Draft memos, speeches, testimony, and other talking points for CSO for Public Realm and Deputy Mayor for Operations.

- You have the ability to self-manage and conduct rigorous research and outreach, attention to detail, and the ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- You have the desire to be entrepreneurial with an interest in social impact, innovation at the intersection of design, policy, and implementation.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate with a baccalaureate degree, preferably in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, or design, or related design fields, plus 7-10 years of full-time relevant professional experience in a field related to this position.- Demonstrated experience in policy, urban planning, project management, operations, or government.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
- You are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite. - You have the willingness to work as part of a team environment and adapt well to change. - New York City or state government work experience or relevant research or technical background, a plus.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
