Organizational Summary: The Climate Leadership Council (CLC) is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote the most effective, fair, and politically viable climate solutions. Americans for Carbon Dividends (AFCD) is a 501(c)(4) national education and advocacy campaign that promotes the bipartisan Baker-Shultz Carbon Dividends Plan.

Primary Responsibilities: The Writer/Editor works across teams to generate a clear, consistent, and compelling voice for the Council, the Council’s Center for Climate and Trade, and AFCD. The position is responsible for all long form content development, grant writing, and maintenance of editorial standards.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work closely with the EVP and Senior Director, Communications and Public Affairs to manage and execute assigned communications initiatives
  • Conceive, write and/or edit a variety of content, including op-eds, letters, reports, blogs, talking points, stakeholder communications, and newsletters
  • Serve as primary editor for all content to ensure consistency in messaging and language
  • Draft grant proposals and reports, working in tandem with the Associate, Office of the CEO to manage grant deadlines and deliverables
  • Work with the team to deliver on blog, newsletter, and digital content drafting, production and deadlines
  • Develop talking points for Council staff participating in external speaking engagements; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in English, journalism, communications, public relations, or related area
  • 5-7 years of communication experience in an agency, trade association, corporate or political setting
  • Working knowledge and experience in messaging on complex policy issues; climate and/or energy experience is a plus
  • Strong writing skills including a proven ability in drafting communications geared toward policy and grantmaking audiences; clear understanding of how to create compelling content through a range of mediums
  • Ability to multi-task, meet pressing deadlines, anticipate needs, and adjust in a changing environment
  • Exhibits a high comfort level driving action in a fast-moving and -evolving political environment; processes new information quickly and adjusts accordingly; displays situational adaptability
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization and act on feedback
  • Team player with impeccable integrity
