Job Description


The Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest serves as the official representative of Israel to the Midwest region of the United States. Our jurisdiction covers nine states: Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.


Roles and Responsibilities:

The Director of Public Affairs manages bipartisan outreach to federal, state, and local government officials in the Midwest and serves as the political advisor to the Consul for Political and Economic Affairs:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with federal, state, and local government offices in the Midwest and identify opportunities for diplomatic engagement
  • Monitor legislative and political developments in the Midwest relevant to Israel and provide analysis for diplomats
  • Organize events and briefings on US-Israel relations for relevant stakeholders to keep them informed of current events in the Middle East
  • Identify opportunities to nurture Israel’s relationships with stakeholders, including advocacy groups, think tanks, and foreign affairs organizations
  • Collaborate with other members of the Public Diplomacy team on initiatives, projects, and events


Qualifications:

  • Strong, nuanced understanding of US-Israel relations
  • Familiarity with the Chicago metropolitan area and different cultures of the Midwest
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; must be able to multitask under time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Ability to quickly learn different software tools
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must have American citizenship and be able to work in the United States; cannot hold Israeli citizenship
  • Previous experience working in a political office/campaign - an advantage


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
