Job Description
The Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire (SELT) Conservation Coordinator plays an important role with the SELT Land Conservation and Stewardship staff in achieving SELT’s mission. The Conservation Coordinator works in a collaborative team environment to provide support in a variety of areas including: administration, analysis, research, information, file management, GIS, and database management. The Conservation Coordinator supports the land conservation and stewardship teams but assists other teams as needed.

Reports to: Land Conservation Director
Responsibilities
- Advances land conservation by providing support related to conservation planning, filing, database entry, and research.
- Maintains sound paper and electronic project records and assists with setting up, maintenance and closing of land conservation and stewardship project files, all in accordance with SELT’s internal policies and practices, the Land Trust Alliance Standards & Practices, and the Land Trust Accreditation Commission standards.
- Keeps the stewardship and land conservation database up to date and runs reports from the database. Works with the Database Manager to make improvements to the database's interface and generate new reports as needed. SELT currently uses LOCATE, created by BackOffice Thinking based on Salesforce platform.
- Requests, receives, and enters monitoring reports for lands on which SELT has an Executory Interest into LOCATE.
- Manages and maintains internally and externally produced spatial datasets, including conservation lands, and provides updates to GRANIT at least annually.
- Undertakes basic GIS analysis and maintains and runs GIS model to evaluate current and potential conservation projects and generates reports from the GIS model output.
- Produces maps that effectively communicate the project’s impact and goals for internal and external audiences. Includes creating and maintaining Story Maps.
- Maintains ArcGIS Online for baseline and fee and easement monitoring field work.
- Manages and converts data for analysis in GIS from Beneficial Designs’ High-Efficiency Trail Assessment Process (HETAP). Utilize the Wheeled Instrument Sensor Package in the field to collect HETAP data.
- Produces or helps prepare baseline documentation for conservation easements including field work, photographs, maps, and written descriptions.
- Manages or assists in the updating and creation of project forms, procedures, checklists and templates.
- Assists in the preparation of internal presentations and communications to SELT Committees and Board of Directors. Attends Land Conservation Committee meetings and Land Stewardship Committee meetings and prepares minutes from the meetings.
- Prepares requests for proposals and contracts for professional services from surveyors, appraisers, title researchers, and Phase 1 professionals. May assist in preparing SELT-prepared hazardous waste screenings.
- Provides support and assistance in the preparation, submission, and reporting for grant applications and awards.
- Supervises volunteers, in particular volunteers that assist in filing and record keeping for the Land Conservation and Stewardship departments.
- Works in close conjunction with Land Conservation and Stewardship team, participating fully with both Departments and taking on specific assignments as needed.
- Participates in organization-wide events and SELT committees as assigned.
- Completes other tasks as may be assigned to support the organization’s mission.

- Bachelor’s degree in wildlife, ecology, forestry, conservation biology, environmental/land use planning, land use law, geographic information systems, or related fields.
- Ability to manage multiple workflows and flexibility to shift and reprioritize due to urgent requests while effectively meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interest in learning about conservation easements, fee simple land acquisitions, and other land conservation techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, careful listener, and strong attention to detail.
- Experience handling standard business communications including phone, e-mail, and web-based meetings.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people from various backgrounds, including community members, contractors, and local government officials whose perspectives may vary widely.
- Experience utilizing relational databases for data entry and report production, including developing boolean queries.
- Good judgment, independent initiative, sensitivity to situations, and a mature and friendly manner are critical.
- Physical ability to do field work, including walking long distances off trail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Suite of products including: Word, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, PowerPoint, and Excel, and with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Zoom.
- Ability to make attractive, easy to read, high quality maps with ArcMap 10 and ArcGIS Pro, and to use ArcMap 10.8 for basic query/analysis functions.
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and reliable and insured personal vehicle available for work use.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Experience or familiarity using Arc GIS Online and Field Maps App on a tablet.
- Willingness and desire to learn is a necessity.
- Strong GIS skills or the ability and willingness to become a strong GIS user.
- Experience with Salesforce BackOffice Thinking LOCATE database.
- One or more years of related work experience in land conservation or stewardship, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation
Competitive salary commensurate with level of directly relevant experience with a starting salary range of $45,000 to $55,000. Competitive benefits package including health insurance plan, long-term and short-term disability insurance, employee match to 403(b)(7) retirement plan, and paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
The majority of work is performed in normal office environment not subject to extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. Operates computer, printer, scanner and other office equipment. Work requires extended sitting and repetitive motion in the use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. There is a field work component and it is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and generally involves walking, bending, crouching and occasionally climbing. Operates GPS, compass, tablet running Arc, camera and related tools. Flexibility with hours due to deadlines with occasional night meetings and weekend assignments.
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and a reliable personal vehicle for transportation to and from work, meetings, and events.

Founded in 1980, SELT has partnered with landowners and communities throughout our 52-community region to conserve more than 25,000 acres of land through conservation easements and fee ownerships. SELT’s offices are located at the beautiful, net-zero and brand-new Nan and George Mathey Center for People and Nature, located on the 237-acre Burley Farms in Epping, NH, and part of a conserved block of land along the Wild and Scenic Lamprey River that is more than 500 acres. Staff will have access to miles of trails for hiking, skiing, birdwatching, and more.
