Position: Public Affairs—Communications Planner (Digital Media)
Work Location: Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, CA
Clearance Requirement: Secret with ability to obtain Top Secret
Position Type / Standard Work Hours: Full-time / 40 hours / On-Site
Summary/ Objective:
BTAS is seeking a Communications Planner with 7 years’ experience in a program, functional or staff organization at a DoD space related agency or Center and having 5 years specialized Communications Planning experience with a specific focus on internal and external corporate and public communications planning, execution, and management. This position supports the SSC Commander/Program Executive Officer (PEOJ for Space, SES Executive Director and Vice Commander in dynamic, fast-paced, high-visibility and often time constrained environment. The digital media communications planner drives day-to-day channel operations in tandem with developing long-term strategy and campaigns. This role requires demonstrated success in writing, editing and organizing compelling messages and other communication products along with an understanding of tools, analytics, digital media technology and platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage multiple strategic events and functions and assist with Strategic Communication Activities.
  • Have a clear understanding of organizational business strategy, projects, research, and stories to craft integrated communication campaigns.
  • Leverage all available communication channels to execute communication campaigns across multiple platforms (conferences, in-office events, media relations, social media, website, etc.).
  • Provide strategic counsel and guidance on all aspects of digital content including language, tone, messaging, brand guidelines, and publication effectiveness.
  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of social media as well as content for digital channels.
  • Ensure synchronization and integration of all strategic message planning efforts. HQ AFSPC, SSC, and applicable partner organizations to support planning efforts that feed into larger enterprise-wide activities.
  • Align and collaborate with public affairs representatives and program offices across the enterprise to plan, manage, and execute messaging and branded content across digital media platforms. Identify creative solutions to support Field Command and program key priorities.
  • Provide analysis and other assessments to ensure a quality product is presented that meets the intent of the tasking. Support governance for communications through the implementation of standards, procedures, and quality measures.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for digital media/marketing trends.
  • Research, draft, and edit articles, speeches, and testimony on Center activities, organization, missions, operations, and initiatives.
  • Ensure communications are timely, necessary, and substantively correct, and that communication content is informing and engaging. Select and recommend communication channels and mediums that are relevant to key stakeholders. Ensure all content is vetted for public release and compliant with DOD standards.
  • Ensure consistency of messages for internal and external audiences.
  • Perform additional research and provide recommendations on submissions from other staff activities to organize, balance, and apply a consistent sense of style, grammar, and flow to the finished product.
  • Prepare and arrange graphics to support presentations.
Required Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Seven years’ experience in a program, functional or staff organization at a DoD Space related agency or Center.
  • Five years specialized experience in Communications Planning activities.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Public Affairs or related field and five or more years of experience in digital communications, public relations, or marketing with demonstrated digital expertise.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in social media marketing, leading strategy for a government/military organization or commercial brand.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to synthesize complex materials, craft persuasive content, and align creative strategy with overall business objectives on web and social media platforms. Familiarity with AP style.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing tools and best practices for metrics and analytics to support strategic communication planning.
  • SSC (previously SMC) experience and knowledge of military, Government, Space & Defense, and technology industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social communities and customer/user experience best practices.
  • Experience in design / video editing / Photoshop.
  • AFPIMS experience.
  • Professional Accreditation in Communications/Public Affairs or related field.
Security Clearance:
An active Secret clearance or higher is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Salary: Competitive benefit package and salary commensurate with experience: range $100,000 – $125,000 USD.
Travel:
Very little - less than 5%
