Communications Director

Job Summary

The Shri Thanedar for Governor campaign seeks an experienced Communications professional to lead our communications team and execute our communications strategy.

Responsibilities will include: - executing tactics to advance campaign communications strategic plan; - building out department, hiring, training, developing and supervising staff; - developing and managing content schedule; - message oversight and cross-collaboration with digital, field, political and finance teams; - cost forecasting; - managing rapid response communications; and - coordinating and producing campaign press events and media hits.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills: - 2 election cycles, or 3-5 years mid- or senior- level communications or press relations experience - Knowledge of and existing contacts within the Michigan press corps; national relationships a plus - Earned media strategic plan development experience - Experience managing and leading a staff - Familiarity of digital influencer and social media landscape - Press event experience - Superior oral and written communication skills - Knowledge of Dropbox, Microsoft Office and Google Drive Suite - Ability to produce results in a self-directed work environment - Strong work ethic and goal oriented - Experience building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds - Ethical and responsible - Creative, innovative, responsive, tactful, self-aware, thoughtful, and humble

The ideal candidate will have existing relationships with the Michigan press corps. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with immediate past experience supervising a large, decentralized team on a statewide campaign for a Democratic candidate or progressive organization.

Candidate will need a reliable vehicle and be willing/able to relocate to and be based in Ann Arbor, MI.
