Care in Action and the National Domestic Workers Alliance seek a State Director in Nevada to build a strong statewide program. The State Director will supervise the day-to-day operations of our integrated state based direct advocacy, basebuilding, and civic engagement work, leading one of the most important projects in our organization. They will manage the hiring and coordination of staff, oversee state budget, and coordinate with civic engagement tables and groups.

Working in close coordination with our state and national staff, the State Director will lead our electoral organizing model, and serve as chief architect of our state-based electoral organizing work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create a powerful electoral organizing operation, including volunteer and paid voter contact, focused on activating and mobilizing women of color.
  • Monitor the legislative session and lead on the development and execution of strategic initiatives, legislative campaigns/caucus, and care legislation. 
  • Implement statewide voter registration campaign focused on unregistered voters of color.
  • Support candidate endorsement process by identifying, vetting, and supporting prospective and endorsed candidates.
  • Hire relevant staff and potentially consultants, including paid voter contact operation.
  • Serve as a representative at appropriate meetings and tables, coordinating closely with our partners across the state.
  • Integrate seamlessly with existing in-state Domestic Worker affiliates and chapters, focused on base building work of domestic workers, including successfully expanding the project to targeted areas.
  • Support and shape the message of our statewide campaign, including serving as organizational spokesperson, with support of Communications staff.
  • Lead experimentation and innovation work around electoral organizing, and analyze and report on results.
  • Cultivate interdepartmental relationships with the data and communication department to accurately amplify brand in all events and campaigns. 

Qualifications:

  • 3-4 cycles of electoral campaign experience with increasing responsibility;
  • Expertise in electoral voter contact, including paid canvass, voter registration, volunteer management and phone banking;
  • Deep knowledge of political organizing. Commitment to racial, social, and economic justice;
  • Belief in the leadership and political power of women of color, especially Black women;
  • Commitment to support Black organizing and civic engagement, including following the leadership of Black women;
  • Ability to forge strong relationships with relevant partners, groups, and leaders across the state;
  • Willingness to work long and unusual hours, including nights and weekends;
  • Willingness to travel is required, and reliable access to a vehicle is preferred in order to attend events and partner meetings across the state;
  • Strong understanding of messaging and communication for electoral campaigns. Relationships with relevant media are a bonus;
  • Work with the national NDWA staff and attorneys to meet all legal and ethical requirements of a political organization;
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills to assess threats and recommend actionable solutions;
  • Relentless drive, tenacity and a willingness to do whatever it takes to advance our mission and values;
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage the technical aspects of a project such as paperwork, deadlines, etc.;
  • Ability to work effectively with strong personalities, peers, public officials, and allies.
  • Experience running data driven, digital first campaigns strongly preferred; and
  • Proficiency in any of the following languages is considered a major plus: Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, or French.
