Job Description
Middle School Humanities Teacher
The Neighborhood Academy is seeking a full-time Middle School Humanities Teacher beginning August 2023. Interested candidates should send a resume or address specific questions to Jason Scott (jason.scott@theneighborhoodacademy.org).
Primary Purpose, 2023-2024 School Year:
- Teach one section of 6th-grade English Language Arts
- Teach one section of 6th-grade History
The Neighborhood Academy is expanding our current Middle School from a 6-8 all male program to a 6-8 coeducational program. In 2023-2024, the position will be responsible for English and History for the new 6th-grade cohort of female students. In subsequent years, the position will transition into a single-subject position (English or History, depending on candidate strengths) for grades 6, 7 and 8 as the program expands.

Minimum Requirements:
Candidate must possess at least the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, English or a related field.
- Prior middle or elementary teaching experience (student teaching as part of a certificate or degree program is acceptable).
- An active PA public (Level 1 or 2) or private teaching license in any related subject or grade band (elementary 4-8, middle level 7-9, or secondary 7-12), or the willingness to acquire one in the future.
- Note: the position includes grades 6-8, but the candidate’s license does not need to cover all three grades; secondary, middle, or upper elementary certificates are welcome.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Salary minimum: $45,000, with increases commiserate with prior experience and degrees
