Job Description
U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) is seeking a highly motivated, pro-active and qualified individual to fill a digital position in her Washington, D.C. office. This person works to cultivate and grow Senator Capito's digital presence across all platforms – finding creative and appropriate ways to highlight her work on behalf of her constituents. This person will be responsible for putting together a comprehensive online outreach strategy through social media, web content, and a regular e-Newsletter. This person reports to the Communications Director, and works collaboratively with the Communications Director, Press Secretary, and Press Assistant to develop digital content in a way that complements traditional communications activities with the goals of communicating a story, highlighting legislative priorities, and amplifying recent media activity to a broader online audience.
Senator Capito enjoys social media and creating digital content, and the person who assumes this position should expect to work for a willing principal and come to work every day with creative ideas to match this fast-paced, fun work environment. The ideal candidate should be diligent, proactive, organized, and a team player.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop an overall digital strategy that conveys the senator’s brand, amplifies the senator's legislative priorities, and complements the office’s traditional communications efforts.
- Draft content and post to respective social media platforms to reach appropriate and purposefully identified audiences.
- Create shareable graphics, photos, videos, and other content that reflects the senator's unique brand to distill his message and legislative efforts.
- Oversee the implementation of an e-newsletter program with the goal of having it be one of the premier work products of the office.
- Maintain the senator's website and working with the web vendors to develop new features that present a clear snapshot of Senator Capito, her background, and her goals.
- Work with partners and outside groups to amplify messaging efforts, enabling broader reach and engagement with conservative audiences.
- Using analytics to evaluate and evolve the office's digital efforts, and aggressively grow the Senator’s digital reach by increasing followers and meaningful engagement with content.
- Clips TV interviews, floor speeches and committee hearings.
- Tracks newsletter, social media metrics, and supports communications team as necessary.
- Prepare a regular internal digital analytics report.
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
- An expeditionary spirit: proactive, good attitude, communicative, forward leaning, growth-oriented, helpful to teammates, owns up to mistakes, and is accountable.
- Quickly develop and hone a sense of when to weigh in on social media and how the Senator can lend voice creatively to a topic/issue.
- Clear and concise writer with ability to understand complex policy issues and translate them into everyday terms.
- Strong understanding of what content excels on specific platforms and how to best channel Senator Capito’s message and brand through digital mediums.
- Proficient understanding of Adobe Creative Suite to create sleek content that reflects Senator Capito's branding.
- Confident in principal interaction and management.
- Experience photographing and shooting videos in-studio and in the field.
- This person will be based in the Washington, D.C. office, but should be prepared to regularly travel to West Virginia, depending on in-state events where digital support is needed.
