Internships

A select number of internship opportunities are offered in my Washington, D.C. and California district offices (Sacramento, San Francisco, Fresno, Los Angeles, and San Diego) for qualified college students and recent college graduates. This program is designed to enrich your academic experience with direct participation in public service, specifically by supporting our offices' constituent services, administrative work, and research functions.

The Washington, D.C. office offers three internship programs: general/legislative, scheduling/operations, and communications. If you are interested in working with either our communications or scheduling teams, please indicate in the application (question #13) and discuss your interest in the cover letter. All other applicants will be automatically considered for the general program. A limited number of paid internship positions in the Washington, D.C. office are available.

General/Legislative Intern primary duties include: opening and sorting mail, answering and responding to constituent calls, giving tours of the Capitol, working with the administrative team, attending hearings/ briefings for staff, conducting research, etc.

Scheduling Intern primary duties include: the responsibilities of a general intern as well as assisting the scheduling team on organizing and sorting invitations, compiling briefing material, maintaining the office’s records, documents, and reports, etc.

Communications Intern primary duties include: compiling the daily news clips, monitoring the news, transcribing, speechwriting research, taking notes on hearings, press conferences, and the White House press briefing, etc.

Law Clerks assist our Washington, D.C. staff by conducting research and drafting memoranda, preparing for hearings and committee meetings, evaluating court decisions and legal trends, etc.

California District Office Intern primary duties include: opening and sorting mail, answering and responding to constituent calls, helping staff with advance work, conducting policy research, etc.

Please note that interns in the Washington, D.C. office are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, and interns in the California offices are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
