The House Republican Caucus has an Executive Director vacancy in the Department of Policy & Legislative Services. The candidate shall: have a four-year degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; possess excellent writing, speaking and organization skills; and, be effective in working with legislators, other legislative staff and the general public. An employee in this classification is the lead staff person assigned to the Game and Fisheries Committee and serves as the principal advisor to the Chairman and Members of that committee. Applicants should have experience and be familiar with committee operations and House Floor Rules. Limited remote work options available.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: An Executive Director is responsible for the complete understanding of the Committee subject area, House rules, Committee operating rules, and Committee administrative procedures. Additionally, this individual is responsible for providing analysis to the Chairman and Members of a standing Committee. This individual is responsible for the overall work product of a particular committee’s staff and serves as the principal advisor to the Chairman and Members of a standing committee on all Committee matters including policy and operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

¨ Advises a chairman and Members of a standing committee on policy matters.

¨ Serves as the principal resource of information to Caucus Members on public policy issues before the Committee.

¨ Analyzes pending legislation, amendments to legislation and formal and informal legislative and administrative proposals and reviews the documents prepared by Policy Analysts and Senior Policy Analysts.

¨ Conducts research on the legality and constitutionality of proposed legislation.

¨ Prepares formal written bill analysis and summary documents for legislation, amendments and other formal and informal legislative and administration proposals, indicating any potential legal problems.

¨ Presents public policy proposals and issues to Members of the General Assembly and general public.

¨ Prepares legislative documents, including bills and resolutions and amendments to bills and resolutions for use by Members of the General Assembly.

¨ Develops responses to correspondence sent to Members of the General Assembly by outside parties.

¨ Researches constituent requests.

¨ Conducts in-depth research into public policy issues.

¨ Assists Members of the House of Representatives to address problems encountered by them and their constituents with departments and agencies of the Executive Branch.

¨ Represents the Committee Chairman and Members of the Republican Caucus at public hearings and meetings as assigned.

¨ Organizes and schedules public meetings and hearings held by standing committees.

¨ Performs, in some instances, executive supervisory roles for committees with multiple Policy Analysts and Senior Policy Analysts.

¨ Apportions workload efficiently among the various staff persons.

¨ Monitors both response quality and timeliness of staff persons effectively.

¨ Ensures that staff resources are applied in the most effective manner possible to the tasks expected of the committee at any one time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
