Assistant Counsel to the Governor
New York State Executive Chamber Albany, NY
Seeking dynamic and experienced lawyers committed to public service for opportunities in the Office of the Counsel to the Governor in the NYS Executive Chamber. Candidates must have a minimum of 6 years of relevant legal work experience in any number of portfolios. We are interested particularly in Economic Development, Health, Education, Elections, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Procurement experience, but other relevant experience will be considered.
Must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing with the New York State Bar.
Specific Duties Include:
Responsible for advising on a wide variety of legal issues relating to assigned portfolio
Oversee all major litigation and investigations involving those agencies, including consulting with the Attorney General’s office on all strategic decisions
Assist in the development of language for the Executive Budget
Draft and negotiate proposed legislation
Conduct a legal review of State of the State and any other major policy addresses of the Governor
Work closely with the General Counsel and Senior Staff in the various agencies and authorities in assigned portfolio
