Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, External Affairs and Market Development, the Sr. Director, Communications is a senior-level position responsible for driving Pattern’s integrated communications strategy. This includes leading both external and internal communications to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives. The role requires developing proactive communication strategies, executing an effective internal communication platform within the company, and managing crisis communications. The Senior Director of Communications supervises a team of direct reports and consultants to ensure the timely execution of all programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage both external and internal communications efforts, ensuring consistent messaging and brand alignment across all channels. Lead the communications team in strategic planning and reporting, and integrating communications initiatives into overall corporate strategies.
  • Lead Pattern’s external communications efforts and represent Pattern on communications-focused committees of relevant industry groups and associations. Develop proactive communication strategies and content to raise awareness of Pattern and its transformative projects, leadership team, subject matter experts, sustainability report, and other business priorities.
  • Serve as a key advisor on communications, issue management, and reputation management to the Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Pattern’s Executive Team including CEO. Consult on engagements involving core leadership, ensuring consistency in messaging and preparation for leadership.
  • Monitor industry trends and dynamics that may impact Pattern’s market and work across internal teams to develop risk mitigation strategies. Establish measurable KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of communications efforts and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
  • Manage a structured and measurable thought leadership program to raise the visibility of and establish a narrative of Pattern’s industry leadership and expertise. This includes earned media opportunities, raising social media profiles, conference speaking engagements, public speaking, media training, and developing a roster of internal subject matter experts.
  • Provide oversight of the internal communications program and develop a comprehensive strategy to communicate key corporate milestones and messages to Pattern employees, closely aligning with business on upcoming company and project milestones and announcements to ensure awareness and determine how/when to leverage executive voices.
  • Lead external and internal crisis communications activities and training.
  • Close coordination with policy and regulatory team and developing and executing communication strategies in support of these objectives.
  • Oversee the development of external and internal communications materials, including newsletters, presentations, intranet content, executive updates, and employee engagement initiatives. Collaborate with Human Resources to integrate internal communications into employee onboarding, training programs, and change management initiatives.

  • Minimum of 12 years of communications experience, with proficiency in both external and internal communications functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing internal communications strategies in a corporate setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adept at conveying complex information with clarity and precision.
  • Strong project management and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in the renewable energy industry or related fields.
  • Team player and builder, fostering an inclusive environment that inspires team members to excel.
  • Ability to navigate across departments and build cross-functional collaboration.
  • Exceptional crisis communication skills, with a focus on mitigating risks and protecting the organization's reputation and a proven ability to lead crisis activities.
  • Attuned to industry developments and news.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, adapt to changing environment, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to connect with and persuade a wide range of audiences.
  • Highly organized with ability to balance between short-term deliverables and long-term objectives.
  • Past success leading global C-Suite executive communications programs.
  • Experience in coalition-building with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, resourcefulness, integrity, and an eagerness for continuous improvement.
  • Houston-based preferred.
  • Travel required, approximately 25-40% depending on candidate's location.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $160,000 - $217,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
