TITLE:                      Government Relations & Legal Assistant


 


REPORTS TO:       Vice President, Government Relations and Senior Vice President &General Counsel


 


OBJECTIVE:           Provide general administrative and logistical support to Government Relations and Legal Departments. This includes monitoring state and federal legislation; drafting initial analysis and position papers; managing logistical activities of association committees, working groups, and task forces (member support, mass mailings, conference calls); proofreading legal and government relations documents; assisting with contract management; and other responsibilities as required.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


General responsibilities:


ð  Prepare agendas, notices, minutes, and correspondence for CRN member committees, working groups, and task forces managed by the Government Relations and Legal Departments


ð  Monitor, track and report on introduced legislation, amendments, committee hearings, mark-ups and floor votes


ð  Research and summarize federal, state, and other legal issues affecting the association or members


ð  Maintain CRN federal and state lobbying compliance, as well as CRN PAC FEC compliance


ð  Help organize annual day on the hill and help manage agenda and speaker coordination for annual legal conference


ð  Assist with organization of grassroots and other advocacy programs: develop background materials and talking points for Congressional meetings; schedule meetings with elected officials


ð  Coordinate CRN committee and other group meetings


ð  Develop and edit correspondence, memoranda, reports, budgets and presentation materials


ð  Assist Legal Department with contract management, including filing and formatting contracts


ð  Act as information resource for members and other departments regarding department activities and policies


ð  Special projects as assigned



Position Requirements:


ð  Baccalaureate Degree


ð  Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, note taking, and proofreading skills


ð  Positive professional image and ability to respond appropriately to a variety of situations, including dealing with conflicting priorities and the handling of confidential information


ð  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Constant Contact, etc.


ð  Some travel may be required
