Job Description
Summary
Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies (CPS), a leading bipartisan lobbying firm in Washington, D.C., is seeking a health care lobbyist to join its growing federal health policy team, with a focus on advocacy before Congressional Republicans and the Trump Administration. The ideal candidate will have at least four years experience working in a government and/or government relations role on health care policy, fluency in the major health policy topics of the last few years, relationships across the government, and a strong work ethic.
Responsibilities:
- Provide regular updates to clients on real-time developments in health care policy from Capitol Hill, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the White House.
- Serve as a strategic advisor and as an advocate/lobbyist for firm clients, while developing and implementing federal advocacy strategies on behalf of companies, trade associations, non-profits, and others;
- Direct and oversee the development, preparation, and recommendation of short and long-term legislative and executive advocacy plans; implement strategies that advance client policy objectives (legislative, regulatory, and administrative) and other priorities;
- Leverage existing relationships to represent the interests of clients on Capitol Hill before Members of Congress, congressional committees, and congressional staff, and before the White House and federal agencies;
- Assist in developing written updates and summaries for clients and providing verbal updates to clients on developments during regular client calls;
- Assist in scheduling meetings for clients, accompanying them to meetings, and planning Washington fly-ins;
- Contribute to and participate in business development efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, at a minimum, from an accredited four-year college or university;
- A minimum of 4 years of experience working in the federal government / government relations and recent experience working in health policy;
- Expert knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes:
- An appreciation of the importance in ensuring clients have real-time information at all times;
- Strong network of contacts within government, including members of Congress and their staff, and administration officials (both political and career);
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships on Capitol Hill and within the Executive Branch with policymakers, staff and other key decision makers to advocate for client objectives;
- Ability to think strategically and independently, as well as adapt to the changing needs and desires of individual clients;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
