National Ag Trade Association Seeks Part Time Policy and Communications Intern

(5-25 hours per week, $20 per hour)


The four-staff association seeks an intern to support the National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA) policy, communications, and administrative projects. Intern will have direct access to the President and CEO as well as senior level government and regulatory staff in an unparalleled opportunity to assist in policy research, strategy meetings, content development and public outreach campaigns, and some administrative matters, to gain a deeper understanding of the ins and outs of how a national trade association operates and influences outcomes in federal policy initiatives on behalf of oilseed processing industry.

 

TIMING

·      NOPA is seeking an intern to start on or around Mar 1 through at least June 1.

 

COMPENSATION/JOB DETAILS

·      This part time position is flexible with the ability for both in-person and remote work based on the intern’s preference and availability. The office is located in downtown, Washington, DC.

·      This is an hourly position and will only be paid the number of hours worked in conjunction with tasks completed. NOPA will provide an hourly wage of $20 per hour as well as metro reimbursement.

·      No additional benefits are offered at this time.


RESPONSIBILITIES

 

POLICY AND COMMUNICATIONS WORK

·      Review legislative and regulatory documents and provides succinct summaries.

·      Assist NOPA Staff in tracking and reporting on federal, state, and local legislation and regulations.

·      Conduct research on topics as assigned.

·      Assist NOPA staff in creation of event and communications calendar as well as draft edit and proofread a variety of policy and communication materials.

·      Develop social media content for LinkedIn


ELECTRONIC RECORDS, WEBSITE AND ADMIN ASSISTANCE

·      Assist NOPA staff in maintaining and organizing electronic files.

·      Maintain backend uploads and documents to members only portion of the NOPA website

·      Compile member survey data, prepare summary reports, support development of white papers, guidance documents and other NOPA documents

·      Support logistics planning for NOPA meetings - prepare/send out scheduling polls to NOPA members and value chain partners, prepare attendee materials, take meeting notes, prepare summary reports and distribute to NOPA members as requested by NOPA staff. 


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

·      Ability to produce high quality work and work products quickly and efficiently.

·      Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation; ability to communicate effectively; courteously and professionally with a variety of individuals at all levels.

·      Must have close attention to detail and be able to hit deadlines.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, organizational, problem-solving skills.

·      Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, in both oral and written communications

·      Strong ability to plan, organize, prioritize work with attention to detail.

·      Ability to work independently and ability to communicate professionally with Fortune 500 company leadership.

·      Advanced proficiency with office technology knowledge, esp. Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Forms, PowerPoint, Teams, et. al.), and online media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, WordPress, Constant Contact)

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

·      Must be enrolled in undergraduate program. Courses in communications, economics, political science and/or public administration preferred, but not required. Interest in agriculture a plus.
