Policy Director – County Executive’s Office
Full-Time, Salary
Salary Range: $73,403.20 – $107,432.00
Job Summary: The Policy Director, with direction from the County Executive and senior staff, frames and formalizes the County Executive’s policy agenda for communications and community relations use. The position will work with the Government Affairs Director to develop policy, program, and initiative recommendations to advance the County administration’s vision and priorities on local, state, and federal issues. In addition, the position will be responsible for conducting research and analyzing emerging issues facing Milwaukee County, while assisting in providing recommendations on potential policy alternatives.

Policy Director – County Executive’s Office

Essential Responsibilities:
- Liaise with the department staff to develop policy proposals and in consultation with the Office of the County Executive and Office of Government Affairs, assist in responding to external policy proposals impacting the county.
- Review and analyze complicated data and information, reducing it to key elements to make recommendations for policy solutions and administrative action. Review policies of other bodies of government and organizations to seek best practices.
- Attend and meetings of community advisory and policymaking organizations to gather advise as well as share the County Executive's opinions and vision for the County.
- With direction from the County Executive and senior staff, frames and formalizes the County Executive’s policy agenda for communications and community relations use.
- Work closely with, and support, the Office of the County Executive and Office of Government Affairs with supportive collateral for external communications and community outreach on policy related issues.
- Analyzes policies and budgets and advises the County Executive.
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary in support of this role and function.
- Current resident of USA.
- Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- At least five (5) years of policy development and analysis experience required
- Master’s Degree or above preferred
- Experience within a policy, governmental, regulatory, or nonprofit environment preferred
- Strong writing and communication skills and ability to present quantitative findings are required.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project- management abilities.
- Comfortable working on a team.
