The Team You’ll Work With
The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) promotes the well-being of immigrant communities by
recommending policies and programs that facilitate successful integration of immigrant New Yorkers
into the civic, economic, and cultural life of the City. MOIA is one of the lead agencies for IDNYC, New
York City’s successful municipal ID program, and is spearheading a number of initiatives to expand
access to justice for immigrant communities. The work of the Office cuts across a broad range of issues
citywide—for example, workers’ rights, health equity, and language access—and MOIA works closely
with sister cities around the country to promote immigration inclusion.

The Outreach and Organizing team are critical in raising awareness and activating card holders to
renew their cards. MOIA also spearheads a number of initiatives to expand free legal and health
services for immigrant communities through ActionNYC and NYC Care. MOIA’s work cuts across a
broad range of issues citywide and MOIA works closely with cities around the country to promote
innovations in immigrant access to services. In addition, the team advances key administration and
MOIA-led priorities by delivering relevant services to vulnerable immigrant populations, including
undocumented New Yorkers and those with limited English proficiency.

The Outreach and Organizing team at MOIA build community power and capacity with impacted
immigrant communities by raising awareness of City services and listening to community needs. In
addition, the team advances key Administration and MOIA-led priorities by delivering relevant services
to vulnerable immigrant populations, including undocumented New Yorkers and those with limited
English proficiency. MOIA supports the continued operation of the IDNYC municipal ID card program.

The Problems You’ll Solve
MOIA seeks a Neighborhood Organizer with experience in issue campaigns, community organizing,
labor advocacy, and/or working with impacted immigrant communities. Each Neighborhood Organizer
is assigned a geographic “turf” area within the city where they will serve as MOIA’s representative.
Neighborhood Organizers develop deep relationships with grassroot leaders and community members
across various sectors and levels, including community-based organizations, schools, religious
institutions, hospitals, and libraries. The organizer will be joining a close-knit, highly, and supportive
team. On average, Neighborhood Organizer spend 75% of their time in their assigned field placement
and 25% of their time in the office. Generally, turf area is assigned based on where a
Neighborhood Organizer lives, languages spoken, and/or the need determined by agency priorities.
The selected candidate will work closely with other City and nonprofit partners to conduct outreach to
ensure that the concerns of New York City’s diverse immigrant communities and community-based
organizations are accounted for in the implementation of City programs. Neighborhood Organizer build
expertise on a range of issue areas including for example TPS, DACA, fraud impacting immigrants, and
workers’ rights. In addition, Organizers will gain experience working with LGBTQIA+ and gender
nonconforming individuals, faith communities, community-based organizations, and at-risk immigrant
workers. Under the supervision of the Outreach Managers and Director, the selected candidate will be
expected to help develop and implement outreach strategy and campaign plans,
understand community concerns, and provide recommendations for how to deliver solutions and
resources effectively.

The Neighborhood Organizer’ duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement outreach tactics to reach immigrant New Yorkers and other
communities eligible services including IDNYC and ActionNYC;
  • Propose and organize large-scale events such as Iftar in the City, Interfaith Passover Seder, and
community town halls. Liaisons are expected to coordinate all components of the event
planning including compiling procurement requests, liaising with other City agencies, and
working with key community members.
  • Contribute to rapid response work, including organizing and participating in last minute
engagements such as rallies, vigils, and press conferences.
  • Provide guidance and assistance in ensuring MOIA and other City partners are communicating
effectively with diverse and hard to reach immigrant communities;
  • Attend community meetings and events to provide information and resources.



  • Disseminate education and outreach materials in target neighborhoods by tabling at events,
delivering presentations, and conducting community canvasses.
  • Report impact of qualitative and quantitative work on a regular basis through a CRM system.
• Train partners and volunteers to expand the effectiveness and reach of MOIA’s programs; •

About You
• Cultural fluency and high level of comfort working alongside and in partnership with diverse

communities and coworkers;
  • Strong knowledge of immigrant and other at-risk populations and community-based
organizations;
  • Professional or volunteer community outreach experience;
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, and comfort with data driven analysis and strategic
planning
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing;
  • Comfort with public speaking on a regular basis;
  • Experience working in a high-speed environment with attention to detail;
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire others;
  • Willingness to regularly work evenings and weekends;
  • Proficient multilingual staff a plus;
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time

professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with an issued based,
labor, or political campaign or community organizing experience; OR

  • A high school diploma and four years of professional experience in the areas described in above
  • Candidates with work authorizations who are DACA/TPS recipients or have direct personal or

family experience with the immigration system are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
• You have proven experience in outreach and program coordination.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience in increasingly responsible administrative positions in
academia, business, government, communications, or related area.
  • You have a working knowledge of Outreach Management Responsibilities
  • You are able to communicate effectively with diverse people.
  • You have excellent organizational and team coordination abilities.
  • You have a pleasant and outgoing personality.
  • You are able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate special events and travel

requirements.



Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive
salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation for this role is
$54,100 - $62,215.

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other
factors.
