The Office of Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) is seeking a Legislative Correspondent to join its fast-paced team in the Washington, D.C. office.

The Legislative Correspondent plays a critical role in promptly responding to constituent correspondence to the Congressman’s legislative work and policy positions. This position reports directly to the Legislative Director. The Legislative Correspondent will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the mail program, including sorting and batching incoming constituent correspondence, and ensuring requests for assistance and constituent casework are directed to the appropriate staff
  • Conducting research, and working with the legislative team to draft and respond to mail in a timely manner
  • Performing special projects assigned by the Legislative Director, Chief of Staff, and Congressman

The Legislative Correspondent will be expected to work in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple deadlines. Strong candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong editing and proofreading skills and strict attention to detail, and the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in the representation of the Congressman’s position on issues.

Previous Hill experience, including familiarity with constituent correspondence programs (such as IQ) preferred. One to three years of administrative or legislative experience recommended.
