Job Description


The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is seeking a Director of International Policy. The Director of International Policy serves as a key advisor, issue expert and lobbyist for the NAM and its members on a range of issues, including tariff and trade agreement negotiations; re-negotiation/review and enforcement of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA); issues particularly affecting manufacturing in the tech sector including the use of AI and digital tools in manufacturing; and trade policies directly at the nexus of national security and manufacturing trade.


 


The Director of International Policy is responsible for analyzing executive branch, legislative, and international trade policy proposals and working with the VP of International Policy to innovate and execute external engagement strategies to advance manufacturers' priorities. Deep knowledge and practical experience working in trade policy is strongly preferred. The Director serves as a lobbyist for policy areas in their responsibility and develops compelling written work products that advance the association's policy goals, including reports, letters to policymakers and congressional testimony.


 


The Director works closely across NAM internal teams, including with the membership, communications, legal and government relations teams to leverage all facets of the NAM’s capabilities to achieve effective outcomes for our members. The successful candidate is an excellent communicator across the organization and able to learn about many different business models, products, and international footprints of the varied NAM manufacturing membership.


 


The Director must demonstrate the ability to interact with company executives, U.S. policymakers, and foreign government officials to listen for solutions and clearly communicate NAM positions on complex issues to these and public audiences. As a voice for manufacturers in the U.S., experience with public speaking is preferred.


At the discretion of NAM leadership, this position may be used for background press interviews.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


 


·        This position is part of a highly collaborative team and has no direct reports.


 


Qualifications:


 


·        A minimum of 8+ years of related Executive Branch, Capitol Hill, and/or Association policy development and advocacy experience. Experience in a Global Government Affairs corporate role also appreciated and welcome.


·        Exceptional understanding of the various trade policy and related challenges facing manufacturers in the United States.


·        Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.


·        Proven ability to work effectively in a fast paced, quality and goal-driven environment.


 


 


Salary Range: $103,000 – $150,000 annually. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
