Summary

This position is in the Bureau of Arms Control, Deterrence, and Stability; Office of Chemical and Biological Weapons Affairs (ADS/CBW).


CBW leads Department efforts to promote the global ban on chemical weapons as embodied in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), develops policies to address emerging chemical weapons issues and challenges, assesses compliance with CWC and the Biological Weapons Convention, and serves as the U.S. National Authority overseeing U.S. implementation of the CWC.


Duties

As Deputy Director of the CBW Office, exercises delegated supervisory personnel responsibilities to meet Office and Bureau objectives.

Advises on the formulation and implementation of national-level policy decisions in chemical weapons arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament.

Reviews formal proposals, statements, and assessments for use in regular dealings and special projects involving the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Provides oversight for functional and regional matters relevant to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).

Represents the Bureau, Department, and U.S. Government in bilateral and multilateral settings and negotiations related to chemical or biological weapons affairs.
