Faegre Drinker has an opportunity for an Advisor-level government relations professional to work with our nationally-recognized health and life sciences federal policy, advocacy, and consulting team in our Washington DC office. You will be part of a dynamic bipartisan team dedicated to client activities focused on Congress, federal departments and agencies. Client representations and associated work span a wide variety of issues, including engaging in the annual appropriations process, developing, preparing and advancing authorizing legislation, commenting on annual Medicare payment regulations, expanding access to care, addressing social determinants of health, advancing health equity and promoting policies and programs to support individuals living with serious, life threatening and disabling conditions.
What you would do in this job:
• Provide prompt, in-depth, client-ready written analyses of complex health policy issues.
• Draft an array of written advocacy and policy materials, including talking points, fact sheets, issue briefs, Congressional and agency correspondence, regulatory comments, action alerts, hearing summaries, and legislative summaries.
• Research and understand laws, regulations, and agency and legislative actions relating to an array of health policy issues.
• Monitor and report on the Congressional legislative process including bill introductions, Congressional hearings, addition of cosponsors, and legislative markups and relevant floor activity.
• Monitor and flag relevant news and developments, including activity on legislation and regulations of interest, issuance of reports by government and non-governmental entities and related tasks.
• Fulfill multiple client projects concurrently, including tracking workstreams, setting call and meeting agendas, summarizing calls and meetings, particularly action items, and other similar activities.
• Advocate and communicate effectively, creatively and concisely in oral and written communications.
• Participate in meetings, videoconferences, and teleconferences with team members as well as with clients.
• Work hard as an integral part of a team focused on achieving concrete results and understanding what’s coming ahead in terms of client work and potential policy developments, including potential challenges and opportunities.

Requirements
• 4 to 6 years of professional experience, including working for at least two years on health policy issues on Capitol Hill or within a federal health agency.
• Proven understanding of the legislative process, with an emphasis on House and Senate committees focused on health policy.
• Very strong written and oral communications abilities including the ability to analyze and summarize health policy topics
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of the executive branch, particularly health-oriented departments and agencies, such as HHS, CMS, NIH, FDA and CDC and related regulatory processes.
• Activities undertaken by advisors typically require registration under the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA).
