The Role: Do you have experience leading a team, providing constituent services and conducting community outreach? The Office of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is hiring a Deputy District Director to join its progressive and dedicated District Office, based in the Bronx and Queens. We welcome you to apply.
Essential Job Function: The Deputy District Director will support the Deputy Chief of Staff/District Director in executing the District Office’s strategic goals. The individual will manage a small team of Constituent Liaisons, ideate and drive community outreach initiatives and eventually lead our grants work. This is a mid-level managerial role within the office.
Deputy District Director Role And Responsibilities, include, but are not limited to:
- Advising the Deputy Chief of Staff/District Director and other members of senior leadership team on community issues, providing stakeholder analysis and keeping up to date on developments
- Supervising District Office staff
- Developing community outreach initiatives ranging from town halls, resource fairs, roundtables, mobile office hours, and more
- Developing relationships with key community stakeholders
- Supporting the Constituent Services Manager in navigating difficult cases and letter requests (for immigration, clemency requests, etc.)
- Representing the office at various community events
- Staffing our offices across Co Op City, Hunts Point and potentially Astoria
- Compiling a weekly report with a roundup of constituent interactions, incoming, and successful cases
- Pitching community engagement initiatives for the Member
- Staffing the Member for in-district events
- Supporting community groups and government agencies in getting connected to relevant grant opportunities; overseeing end of year reporting on grant metrics
This is not an entry or junior-level position and requires an individual who is highly motivated, service oriented, and deeply rooted in the community.
You: have a set of lived and professional experiences that equip you well to serve the residents of New York’s 14th congressional district and firmly believe that every person has a right to be served by their elected representatives with dignity.
You should have the ability to work well in a team, the people skills to liaise with diverse groups, and deep empathy and commitment to the people we are here to serve.
You are a kind and empathetic leader, with a vested interest in helping your team grow and provide robust constituent services. You should have ties to New York’s 14th congressional district and have an understanding of how to meet people where they are at.
Additionally, you should possess strong oral and written communication skills; and work in collaboration with multiple departments.
Individuals with previous organizing, government, constituent services, and/or community outreach experience are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of federal casework is a plus.

Location and Work Environment:The role is based in New York’s 14th Congressional district offices: Co Op City, Hunts Point, and Astoria.
Compensation: $76,000 - $81,000 annually, depending on level of experience and expertise. Our office also provides a competitive benefits package that includes health insurance, dental, federal student loan payment (terms apply), up to 25 days of annual leave, 10 days of paid bereavement leave, and 16 weeks of paid, job-protected family leave.
