COMMUNICATIONS INTERN Better Medicare Alliance

The Better Medicare Alliance (BMA) is a DC?based coalition of health plans, providers, advocates, and beneficiaries dedicated to supporting Medicare Advantage (MA), the part of Medicare that provides capitated payments to plans that enable providers to focus on delivery system innovations to bring quality, affordable, comprehensive coverage and care to seniors. BMA advocates for MA by informing policymakers of evidence-based research and innovative care models, as well as communicating the perspective and experience of the variety of stakeholders who share the goal of improved care, affordability, and simplicity for Medicare beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

- Reports to the Director of Communications.

- Supports communications team on a variety of projects.

- Works with Director of Communications and/or Beneficiary Outreach Manager on tasks such as: developing newsletters, blog posts, media clips, and advocacy materials

Social Media

- Posts updates, news and announcements on Twitter and YouTube accounts in a timely manner using appropriate content.

- Researches articles, stories, resources, or other relevant content, and posts them to our Twitter and Linkedin page in a manner that invites conversation and interaction.

- Updates Twitter and YouTube accounts with current and relevant photos, video, or other content from Better Medicare Alliance activities and events.

- Completes other social media projects as assigned.

Digital Media

- Takes photos and videos of Better Medicare Alliance events to be developed into content for the website, Facebook and Twitter pages.

- Uploads photos and videos to the appropriate server or DropBox account.

- Organizes and archives digital images and videos.

- Completes other digital media projects as assigned.

Research/Reporting

- Monitors and reports online activity of relevant organizations.

- Completes other research projects as assigned.

- Uses Google Analytics to assess trends and activity on the Better Medicare Alliance website.

- Reports on the performance of social media platforms for communications team.

- Attends relevant events, conferences, and Hill briefings.

- Works with the Director of Communications on event planning.

Qualifications:

- Graduate Student in Communications or Marketing

- Interest or experience in health policy, preferred

- B.A./B.S. required

- Strong writing and communication skills

- Interested in health and health policy issues

- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Wordpress and/or Drupal

- Interest in marketing

- Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills required

- Interest in working with a senior population

- Positive, can-do attitude

- Ability to meet deadlines
