Senator Dick Durbin seeks an IL Press Secretary for a fast-paced, team-oriented, proactive communications operation. The IL Press Secretary assists the IL Deputy Communications Director and supports the press staff in Washington as needed. Responsibilities include identifying topics for, planning, and staffing press events across the state. The IL Press Secretary drafts and edits press releases, media advisories, quotes for press releases, social media posts, and op-eds for submission to media outlets. Duties also include assisting in daily monitoring of news statewide and the distribution of articles to staff, overseeing editing and posting of videos and photos on social media and other duties as assigned. This position is based in Chicago but travel throughout the State, as well as some night and weekend work, are required. Applicants should have 2+ years of transferable experience and possess excellent written and oral communication skills, be detailed-oriented and highly organized, have the ability to efficiently multi-task, be able to work independently and hold a general knowledge of computer technology and software programs used in an office setting.
