Job Description
The Office of Assembly Member Chantel Jackson seeks a highly motivated, strategic, and detail-oriented Communications Director to lead media relations, public messaging, and digital outreach. This role is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies to amplify the Assembly Member’s legislative priorities, community initiatives, and public engagement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Media & Public Relations
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to enhance the Assembly Member’s visibility and public engagement.
- Draft and distribute press releases, op-eds, statements, and media advisories.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating interviews and press conferences.
- Cultivate relationships with local, state, and national media outlets to secure coverage.
Digital & Social Media Strategy
- Manage and create content for the Assembly Member’s social media platforms, ensuring consistent messaging.
- Monitor social media trends and engagement, responding to inquiries and shaping the narrative.
- Develop digital campaigns to highlight legislative achievements, community initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
- Oversee the maintenance and content development for the office’s website and email newsletters.
Speechwriting & Messaging
- Draft speeches, talking points, and public statements for the Assembly Member.
- Prepare briefings and background materials for public appearances, interviews, and events.
- Ensure messaging aligns with policy goals, district priorities, and constituent concerns.
Community & Constituent Engagement
- Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts.
- Organize and promote events, town halls, and public forums.
- Develop materials such as flyers, reports, and fact sheets to inform constituents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field.
- Experience in Media relations, public affairs, or a similar role.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
- Proficiency in social media management, graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite), and email marketing platforms.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of New York State government, legislative processes, and policy issues relevant to Assembly District 79.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
