Job Description
The South Central Texas region includes a 35-county area that stretches from El Paso County to the southeast through Bexar County to Aransas County, south to Kleberg County - most populous cities in the region include San Antonio, El Paso, Corpus Christi and New Braunfels. The physical office is located in San Antonio.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Serve as the Senator's liaison to all government, community, constituent groups and leaders in the region
- Advise the Senator on all community, legislative, or other developments in region
- Oversee operation of the San Antonio office and manage a Deputy Regional Director
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor developments, opinions and concerns of government, community and civic groups, as well as that of individual constituents
- Plan, coordinate and staff the Senator during event travel in the region
- Attend civic meetings, community events and other events to represent the Senator
- Remain abreast of current legislative issues relating to the geographic region
- Assist the Senator in identifying, planning and implementing legislative strategies
- Work with representatives of federal, state and local entities to fulfill the Senator's legislative agenda and to address constituents' priorities
- Provide input to the press office for media inquiries as appropriate
- Additional duties as assigned
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills that include public speaking experience
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and Windows
- Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and follow through on assigned tasks to completion with little supervision
- Strong ability to effectively interface with various levels of government agencies, public figures and community stakeholders
- Personal transportation is required; the Regional Director will travel throughout the 35-county South Central Texas region while based out of the San Antonio office
- Some nights, weekends and holidays required
- In depth knowledge of South Central Texas region is preferred
