Job Description:

Knowesis is looking for subject matter experts to aid the Corporate Operations Department, Corporate Communications Division in providing strategic counsel, planning, and execution of communication for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Dam Neck Activity.

The Communications Assistant will inform, promote, and market the successes of NSWCDD by:

Providing communication engagement support in Code 103 for NSWCDD Commander and Technical Director for approximately 100 - 125 engagement events each year

Planning, coordinating, and overseeing the execution of meetings and special events to include distinguished visitors, historic milestones, anniversaries, and community events

Coordinating transportation, multimedia and visual information support, amenities, accommodations, site surveys, and event design while following military traditions and protocol based on OPNAVINST_1710.7A, Social Usage and Protocol Handbook

Providing support for tracking and processing of approximately 600 technical review documents annually, using a government-furnished database

Answering phone calls or email inquiries on the status of reviews, tracking reviews through the review process, processing letters indicating the disposition of the technical review, mailing correspondence to submitters, filing completed reviews and archiving reviews older than three years

Providing publication editing and writing support to include edits for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity of sentences, format, and adherence to division guidelines

Preparing composition and illustration specifications and front elements of Administrative Publications, Technical Reports, Technical Notes, and Miscellaneous Publications

Organizing complex technical information so that it is effectively presented and communicated to the audience

Writing, proofreading, and editing scriptwriting, news releases, briefings, transcription of oral interviews, and special publication projects.

Providing editorial support to include creating, reviewing, editing and formatting publications, technical publications, reports, manuals, brochures, focus sheets, journals/magazines, journal articles, conference papers, white papers, programs, and awards

Using the Government’s job-tracking entry form and Tracker Service Information Collection Modules (SICM) to record all requests, assign tracking number, describe job contents, and enter special instructions with metadata for each product produced.

Required Experience:

Education and Experience Requirements

Active and current Secret DoD Security Clearance

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications field, Public Relations, or Marketing and two

(2) years of related experience OR six (6) years related experience in the field of Public Relations, Public Affairs or Journalism

Demonstrated experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web based, and hard copy material

Proven ability to support employee communication programs and products, media relations programs, community relations, special events, and provide photography support
