Student Activities and Leadership Programs (SALP) is a vibrant office who’s mission is to help students find their communities on campus, be engaged, and become ethical and socially just leaders. There are six programs within SALP: student government, student groups, student-led operations, student media, Student Community Engagement Center, and Student Sustainability Center :https://www.pdx.edu/student-leadership/
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating, executing, and evaluating marketing and communications strategies and tactics that support Student Activities and Leadership Programs (SALP) recruitment and retention goals, as well as support overall student engagement at Portland State University.
- Marketing programs, services, and opportunities that encourage student involvement and foster student success
- Provide leadership for the creation, design, production, and delivery of all publications, promotional materials, newsletters, website, social media, photo, video, and other presentations for SALP
- Leading and supervising a team of up to three hourly student employees responsible for supporting marketing and communication efforts
- Provide training and mentoring for student leaders from SALP programs and groups to enhance their capacity for marketing and communications
- Ensuring representation for SALP at various sponsored activities among current and prospective Portland State students and community members, including Orientation, New Student Week, student recruitment events, resource fairs, and open houses.
- Playing an integral role in SALP’s strategic planning and student success while serving as an active member of the Portland State community, including serving on committees and attending events.
The position reports to the SALP Executive Director and is charged with serving as the marketing and communications subject matter expert while working effectively with cross functional teams in the department and university.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS with 2+ years of related experience in marketing and communications
- Competence in use of design software and applications, for example Photoshop, Illustrator, or In-Design
- Experience planning and managing simultaneous complex projects and managing deliverables according to deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, teach, train and evaluate students
- Demonstrated proficiency in graphic design, web management, and social media
- Collaborative style and strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work in teams and with a wide range of people
- Demonstrated mastery in writing newsletters and web content
