The Office of the Illinois Senate President (Communications Department) seeks a motivated professionals to assist in developing and implementing strong public relations strategies in member’s districts to help assist with constituent outreach.
Experience, training and/or education in event planning and community organizing will be strongly considered. District Outreach Specialists will work in state senator’s district offices within an assigned region to coordinate outreach events and aid district offices with constituent services.
Exceptional candidates will be able to participate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that frequently includes extended hours. Candidates must demonstrate an ability find creative ways to identify existing outreach and constituent service prospects, while simultaneously highlighting senator’s priorities to develop new opportunities.
An understanding of how district offices operate, basic constituent service and the Illinois legislative process is preferred. Basic writing skills and knowledge of social media are encouraged.
Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule with travel. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving history.

The Senate President, Senator Don Harmon, is the presiding officer of the 59-member Illinois Senate and the leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus. The Senate President shares primary responsibility for legislative procedures and operations. The Office assists in formation, passage and implementation of legislative policy initiatives.
