Building our storytelling, influence campaigns, and content capabilities to drive impact, the Communications Officer is a core member of the Communications, Policy and Advocacy team. This person plays an important role in enhancing the visibility and understanding of the Foundation’s work and brand.

The role requires coordinating, implementing and managing work in media relations, brand management, digital communications, and influence campaigns. A key responsibility is developing clear, compelling messages and content to be used across a variety of platforms, including digital channels, earned media, social media, external publications, and for events and convenings.

Other responsibilities include support in strategy development, maintaining and updating editorial calendars, media tracking, and working closely with external vendors such as creative agencies. The Communications Officer provides additional support where needed. Minimal supervision. Independent judgment and initiative within specific guidelines are required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Contribute to the development and implementation of communications and influence strategies for the Foundation, its initiatives, and programs.

Proactively identify media opportunities for the Foundation’s experts and partners. Maintain strong relationships with key media; pitch media, prepare materials for spokespeople and coordinate interviews.

Write and edit core materials including messaging, press releases, talking points, blog posts, and other materials.

Collaborate with and counsel vendors on the Foundation’s vision and objectives.

Oversee and contribute to the development, research, and writing of briefings for media opportunities and events.

Create and manage an effective project management system to ensure that key events, activities, milestones and deliverables for priority projects are being proactively tracked and managed, ensuring a hands-on approach to problem-solving in order to deliver timely and effective results.

Work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders and core grantees ensuring positive cooperation and relations are maintained at all times.

Education, Experience and Skills

A bachelor degree in Communications, International Studies or a related field.

3-7 years generalist communications experience for global organization in public, private or social good space.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent media relations skills and experience.

Experience and/or familiarity with non-profit and public sectors, with deep awareness of current affairs and development trends.

Proven track record in managing plans and deadlines.

Superb interpersonal skills and professional presence.

A proven ability to think strategically, analyze critically, and to translate ideas and insights into action through coherent and viable communications and influence programs and plans.

Ability to manage projects, vendors and budgets.

Team leadership skills, such as flexibility, diplomacy and listening skills.

Highly organized, with ability to multi-task.

Qualifications and Competencies

Strategic Ability: Ability to see opportunities, design innovative approaches backed by strong analysis and planning. Strong sense for messaging, themes and techniques that resonate with the media in general.

Execution: Strong project management skills, deadline management, sense of responsibility and accountability and the ability to effectively multi-task.
