Program Officer - Communications

The Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) seeks a new Program Officer to assist with its communications activities. The newly hired Program Officer will work closely with the Director of Communications on a wide range of internally and externally facing responsibilities related to reporting, coordination, and design. These include regularly composing updates to the AIPG website and community mailers, the development of new tools for use by the organization’s global staff, and the creation and revision of new resources for the global atrocity prevention community, as well as a variety of administrative duties, such as database maintenance and expense reporting. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, this job would begin as a remote, work-from-home position. As pandemic conditions improve, the position will transition to a standard, in-person working arrangement from AIPG’s New York headquarters in Midtown, Manhattan.

The Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (www.auschwitzinstitute.org) is building a world that prevents genocide and other mass atrocities. Through education, training, and technical assistance, we support States to develop or strengthen policies and practices for the prevention of genocide and other mass atrocities. We also encourage and support the cooperation of States through regional and international networks to advance prevention.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

●    Production of regular updates on the organization’s activities, including news items, alumni community newsletters, and other AIPG web content

●    Revision and proofreading

●    Spanish-English document translation

●    Coordination with project teams and collaboration with external partners for the production of communications materials

●    Design and production of institutional assets and resources

●    Contact database maintenance

●    Budgeting

●    Basic IT support

 Required Qualifications

●    Excellent writing skills and the ability to rapidly draft and revise newsworthy copy, as well as familiarity with academic methodologies and standards

●    Native or advanced fluency in written and spoken Spanish

●    Experience with WordPress or similar CMS

●    Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and InDesign

●    Bachelor’s degree in political science, international affairs, human rights, communications, law, journalism, or a related field

●    Demonstrated interest in the field of mass atrocity prevention

Preferred Qualifications

●    Master’s degree in a relevant field

●    Familiarity working on atrocity prevention issues as well as in and around the United Nations System

●    Fluency or working knowledge of Portuguese, French, Arabic, and/or other major world languages

●    Familiarity with Google Workspace (Formerly G-Suite) Tools and Administration

●    Experience with the creation of educational or other short-form, non-fiction video media clips in Adobe Premiere or similar software
