What you’ll be doing...

In this role you will be developing and implementing Verizon's legislative strategy, tactics and content in support of company goals and positions across all business units enterprise-wide with a focus on technology and telecommunications policy. You will be responsible for representing Verizon and influencing policy makers at the state and local government level in California. You will be accountable for strengthening Verizon’s political impact using extensive government experience and networks.

Supports Verizon state regulatory team to influence decisions in key regulatory initiatives.

Identifies and influences proposed state legislative activities.

Plans and executes strategies to ensure that relevant legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.

Interacts with members of the state's executive branch and with members of the state's legislative body.

Keeps management informed of pending legislation.

Serves as primary strategic liaison to company affiliations, special business and third party groups.

Provides team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders.

Plans and develops strategic messaging.

Represents Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at committee meetings/hearings that address legislation impacting Verizon.

Compiles competitive intelligence.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Experience in state and/or local government relations.

Experience in advocacy/issues management and coalition-building.

Knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the state and local level.

Willingness to travel up to 25% within territory.

Willingness to work in a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary.

Even better if you have:

Law degree.

Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications and technology policies and positions.

Strong network of contacts at the California Legislature and State Capitol in Sacramento.

High level of knowledge concerning economic regulation in the communications, cable, or utilities industries

Public policy and advocacy experience on behalf of a technology, communications, cable TV or public utilities business/industry.

Knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.

Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives.

Strong leadership skills.

Capability to be a self-starter with intellectual curiosity.

Strong organizational and planning skills.

Ability to work with all levels of management.

Highest level of personal integrity.

Demonstrated communications skills, both verbal and written.
