Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated individual to join the Colorado General Assembly House Minority Office as a Communications Advisor. As the Communications Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting the priorities of the Director of Communications and for the execution of the House Minority’s communications strategy with an emphasis on writing and traditional media content. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of the caucus's priorities. The candidate will often have to discuss how to manage these situations with elected members of the caucus.
Responsibilities:
Drafting, editing, and helping place op-eds for caucus members;
Advise and help prepare members for press events, interviews, and speaking engagements;
Oversee development of remarks, talking points, Q&A, anticipate difficult questions, and provide responses and guidance;
Stay abreast of the news and relevant issues being reported in the press and identify opportunities for proactive outreach and/or need for talking points;
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills;
Ability to exhibit a professional demeanor in a fast-paced and high-pressure work environment;
Ability to prioritize and manage a wide array of projects to completion;
Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to juggle priorities and work with;
Grace under tight deadlines;
The ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is highly preferred;
Experience working with the political press — Existing relationships with the Capitol media corps is a plus.
Employment Information:
Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and other related qualifications. Annual salary range is $50,000-$60,000. The position will report to the Director of Communications & External Affairs.
