Job Description
Summary:
The APR is the leading industry voice advocating for effective policies to improve plastic recycling. We are looking for a motivated, passionate team member to grow our on-the-ground policy advocacy across US states. The ideal candidate will have experience in public policy, government relations, advocacy, and coalition-building, and preferably have a background in recycling or sustainability. The position reports to the Chief Policy Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Chief Policy Officer to develop and execute policy strategies in US states
- Represent APR in legislative meetings, public hearings, stakeholder meetings, conferences, and other events
- Support relationships with diverse stakeholders, including elected officials, government agencies, industry groups, NGOs, recyclers, contract lobbyists, and more
- Help to analyze and communicate how legislation and policies will impact the organization and members
- Assist in preparing testimony, comment letters, presentations, and other documents on proposed legislation and rulemaking
Qualifications:
- Experience in government affairs, public relations, public policy, lobbying, and other advocacy efforts
- Background in recycling or sustainability initiatives preferred
- Professional presentation and communications with diverse stakeholders
- Be innovative and creative in developing solutions and building coalitions to pass good policies
- Willingness to ask questions and collaborate with technical and communications team
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Willingness to travel potentially up to 50% of time
Compensation:
- Salary commensurate with experience; expected range $75,000 - $95,000/year
