Job-Specific Responsibilities
The Shift Project, at the Wiener Center for Social Policy at Harvard Kennedy School, focuses on collecting and analyzing new data to inform scholarly understanding of the contours, causes, and consequences of precarious low-wage employment and the effectiveness of policy and corporate response. This work involves original data collection, statistical analysis, and the writing and dissemination of academic papers, research briefs, invited testimony, and policy reports.
The Project and Policy Analyst is a 100% time position that will support the work of the Shift project in several domains. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of and in collaboration with Professor Schneider and with GSR appointees and undergraduate RA appointees. The incumbent will perform complex tasks related to research and analyses and project management.
The incumbent will assume responsibility for various aspects of projects including (1) coordinating all data collection activities, including overseeing pre-doctoral fellow(s), programming surveys and maintaining detailed records of data collection instruments; (2) preparing research reports; (3) coordinating digital dissemination of findings from The Shift Project to policy makers and other stakeholders; (5) monitoring the retail and fast food industries and related policies; and (6) assisting with overall project management. The incumbent will have deep knowledge of data collection and analysis procedures and will provide advisement to staff in such areas. S/he will serve as an integral member of the research team working to study precarious employment and inform related policy making. The incumbent is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all data collection activities, including training and overseeing pre-doctoral fellow(s), programming surveys and maintaining detailed records of data collection instruments
- Prepare and disseminate policy and research briefs
- Coordinate digital dissemination of findings from The Shift Project to policy makers and other stakeholders
- Monitor the retail and fast food industries including news, trade publications, financial data and company reports, and other data sources
- Assist the RDA and PIs with cleaning and analysis of data collected through The Shift Project
- Assist with grant applications and monitor grant-funded resources
Provide general project management including improving work-flow processes - Develop recommendations for improving data collection and project management and implement recommendations in consultation with academic supervisor
- Translate research findings and policy analysis into policy and practice strategies/recommendations. This will require producing written documents (e.g., reports, briefs, online posts) and presentation material that translates the knowledge into forms that are accessible to key stakeholders and the public.

Basic Qualifications
- Master's degree in in economics, sociology, public policy, history, or other relevant field.
- A minimum of two years of relevant research experience required. Experience gained in school counts towards requirement.
- 3 years' experience in research administration and/or project management.
- Experience with survey programming with Qualtrics.
