Mobilization Associate

Location: Remote

Stand Up America is a progressive, digital-first advocacy organization with nearly 2 million grassroots members who are working to stand up to corruption and build a more representative democracy. We’re fighting for democracy reforms at the local, state, and federal level that would expand voting rights, reduce the impact of big money in our politics, and end structural barriers that conservatives have built to impede progressive change. Our members have driven more than 1.7 million constituent calls to their representatives, mobilized tens of thousands of protestors, contacted tens of millions of voters, and helped pass bold democracy reforms at the state and federal levels.

• Every American has representation, regardless of where they live, what they look like, or how they identify.
• Racist barriers to the ballot are torn down and voting rights are expanded to ensure that voting is accessible, secure, and treated as the sacred right that it is.

Reporting to the SMS and Organizing Director, the Mobilization Associate will join a 13-person digital team focused on demanding the democracy we deserve. As the Mobilization Associate, you be involved in two main parts of Stand Up America’s work:

• Broadcast Texting: With hundreds of thousands of Americans subscribed to receive regular texts from Stand Up America through our broadcast text program, you will write regular content to give activists the most meaningful action they can take right now to protect and expand our democracy, whether that’s making a call to urge their state senator to vote for legislation that would expand voting access or sending a letter to the editor to help build public support for Supreme Court reform.
• Voter Contact: For activists with a bit more time, we also work with a national network of volunteers, largely through Slack, to do direct voter contact like sending peer to peer texts and writing handwritten letters to voters. This volunteer team has contacted tens of millions of voters. With the help of our team of democracy experts, you may help volunteers answer questions about mail-in voting in Pennsylvania or why a ballot initiative to protect direct-democracy in Ohio will also help to protect abortion rights later. You will be helping write scripts to voters and uploading data to our peer-to-peer texting tool.

Responsibilities:

• Broadcast Texting (70%)
• Draft content for our broadcast texting program to inspire our supporters to take action.
• Produce messages to be sent to our lists, including ensuring that copy and audiences are correct.
• Respond to questions and feedback from our members.
• Pitch creative ideas for our community members to urge them to take action for our democracy.
• Propose ideas for testing and share results after tests.
• Voter Contact (30%)
• Draft content for peer-to-peer texting campaigns and volunteer events.
• Produce peer-to-peer texting campaigns to ensure copy, targeting, and creative is correct.
• Engage and build relationships with volunteers and help them send peer to peer texts.
• Cultivate and mentor volunteers and leaders to get more deeply involved with Stand Up America.
• Staff remote volunteer events like webinars and text banks.

Must haves:

• 1-4 years of experience drafting digital copy at a nonprofit, political campaign, or agency.
• Passion for building a truly representative democracy, including fighting for voting rights, reducing the influence of big money in our elections, and overcoming barriers to progress.
• Desire to work with volunteers and members.
• Demonstrated ability and desire to learn tools and skills in the digital space quickly.
• Strong attention to detail, even in a fast-paced campaign environment.
• A commitment to racial equity and justice.

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience drafting broadcast or peer-to-peer texts to community members or voters.
• Experience organizing volunteers remotely using digital tools.
• Experience with digital campaign tools, like EveryAction, Scale to Win, Hustle, Mobile Commons, Mobilize, ActionKit, Action Network, and/or Strive.
• Experience using data and analytics in your work.
• Past work on democracy reform.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $65,000-$80,000 annually, commensurate with years of experience
