Description

The International Monetary Fund is seeking an experienced editor, with experience in managing complex publications projects, strong editorial skills, and multimedia and print production experience, to serve as a Communications Officer in its Editorial and Publications Division in Washington, D.C. The IMF Communications Department (COM) develops and coordinates the IMF's external and internal communications strategy, shapes the key messages of the IMF, advises IMF management and staff on how best to convey key messages, and monitors and responds to what people outside the IMF say about the institution and its activity. The IMF Publishing Program, run by COM’s Editorial and Publications Division, is a vital part of the Fund's communications activities to inform the public about its views, research, and analysis.

Responsibilities

This is a contractual position, with an initial one-year contract, and renewable for up to four years, subject to performance and business needs.

The successful candidate will oversee the editing and production (print and digital) of the Fund's Regional Economic Outlook (REO) reports, along with other books, reports, compilations, and special products, as assigned. He or she will serve as a project manager for the semi-annual REOs, working closely with IMF authors and staff in the IMF’s five regional departments and outside vendors to coordinate the publications’ preparation, release, and supporting outreach under tight deadlines. Technical duties include developing schedules and workplans, supervising the editorial review and revision of manuscripts, processing charts and tables for layout, and executing a digital composition workflow for print and digital outputs. IMF editors work with a high degree of independence and must be able to manage several projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

The candidate will have an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in communications, international relations, languages, or a related field; or a university degree, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience. Besides an excellent command of written and spoken English, he/she must have very good experience in managing all stages of manuscript development and editing. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded communications professional who can also contribute broadly to the work of COM.

The ideal candidate must have very strong negotiating and influencing skills with expertise in managing relationships with authors; strong experience with print and digital publications production (including Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, XML, and processing of economic tables, charts, and equations), and publication distribution; strong team leaderships skills, including experience overseeing an editorial team and juggling multiple projects and deadlines; good knowledge of economic and financial issues, as well as a sound understanding of global social, political, and developmental issues; and flexibility to accommodate heavy workloads leading into the IMF’s spring and fall meetings.

A written test will be administered as part of the selection process.
