External and Corporate Relations Vice-Presidency (ECR)

The mission of External and Corporate Relations (ECR) is to help deliver financial and political support for the World Bank Group, strengthen the Bank Group’s role as a global thought leader in development by enhancing and safeguarding its reputation, and supporting operational teams to achieve country outcomes. ECR manages corporate communications and global engagement with key stakeholders, including media, civil society, foundations, private sector, donor countries, and international organizations, as well as employee engagement. ECR also manages strategic communications for the World Bank’s Regions and Global Practices and leads the management of reputation risk.

Department context:

The ECR Editorial and Digital (ECRED) department manages the World Bank’s external corporate presence and reputation through its digital platforms and channels, oversees employee engagement communications and provides insights and impact analysis of our communications work. Background / General description

The ECR Editorial and Digital (ECRED) department manages the World Bank’s external corporate presence and reputation through its digital platforms and channels, oversees employee engagement communications and provides insights and impact analysis of our communications work. We play a growing creative and content development role, including producing recorded and livestreamed programming for our own and external channels in support of the Bank’s top priorities.


Responsibilities

The Social Media Specialist will support strategic outreach, engagement and advocacy efforts across the World Bank’s social media channels using creative visual content:

Campaigns and content:
  • Write, produce videos and graphics that are customized for different social media channels and audiences, working closely with colleagues on messaging that supports corporate priorities, ensuring a consistent and clear voice, tone and approach.
  • Support campaigns that invite our audiences to interact and engage with the World Bank (eg “user-generated content” campaigns, polls, questions, and expressions of support); help coordinate with different units on the development and roll out of these campaigns, including translating concepts and content into local languages
  • Propose content and ideas to help amplify the reach of our messages and campaigns, including live conversations, polls, quizzes, Instagram Reels and filters, Twitter Spaces, etc.
  • Edit and adapt social media content that comes from colleagues in other units as well as external partners; coordinate production and deadlines with multilingual, regional and practice group and other colleagues as needed.
  • Work closely with the Multimedia team to create an adapt more complex video, animations, and graphics for social channels.
  • Manage editorial workflow for organic and some paid marketing activities, coordaining with other units in the timing and positioning of content across social media channels.

Risk management:

  • Proactively monitor World Bank channels for reputational risk issues.
  • Produce monitoring reports as needed, as well as support for colleagues designing response and mitigation efforts.

Selection Criteria

  • Exceptional research, writing and editing skills – editorial judgment; experience writing for diverse social media audiences.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and demonstrated ability to apply creative ideas for how to engage/interact on them.

  • Experience managing Instagram, Meta and its products (Messenger, WhatsApp, etc.) for large organizations is a plus.
  • Ability to produce creative content, make short videos and produce graphics. Experience in Final Cut or Adobe Premiere and Photoshop or any other design tool.

  • High degree of awareness regarding social media trends and strategies.
  • Familiarity with paid and organic (non-paid) social media tactics; understanding of metrics and measurement tools in order to gauge impact, results.

  • Strong judgment, knowledge of international development, political economy and related areas.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
