The Opportunity

As the Social Media Director at Emerson Collective (EC), you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our overarching communications strategy with an eye on all things digital. You will be responsible for overseeing all owned digital channels, ensuring alignment with our overarching communications strategy and mission. You will work in close collaboration with our Brand Creative Studio (BCS) and external agencies to create and deliver content that is engaging, resonant and beautiful. 

This role reports to the MD, Communications & Campaigns and is based in Washington DC.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a digital communications plan in coordination with EC’s overall strategic communications vision.
  • Work closely with the BCS team to ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels, as well as with external agencies to create compelling and impactful content.
  • Ensure that all content is aligned with EC's values and resonates with the intended audience(s).
  • Own and update the social media editorial calendar, coordinating content distribution across various platforms and working with internal teams and external partners to ensure key moments and milestones are included and amplified.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics, using insights to refine and optimize content strategies and develop strategies to increase audience reach and engagement.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans for social media, ensuring a proactive and strategic approach to potential issues or user engagement.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices to ensure Emerson remains at the forefront of digital communication.

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

  • Proven experience as a social media strategist, preferably in a mission-driven organization, on a campaign, in government, or at a social impact agency.
  • Strong understanding of various social media platforms, analytics, and emerging trends.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to collaborate effectively both internally and externally.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to develop engaging and visually appealing content.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage deadlines and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Alignment with EC’s mission and passion for social impact.

Location 

Emerson Collective is a Bay Area-based organization with offices in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. This position is located in Washington DC and is onsite four days per week.
