Job Description
INSTITUTE FOR RESPONSIVE GOVERNMENT
Our day-to-day experiences of citizenship can often resemble bureaucratic nightmares — conducting a simple government transaction can often lead to a confusing mess of paperwork. Whether a person is registering to vote, filing taxes, or starting a business, the unpleasantness of bureaucracy and poor UX design leads to demonstrably worse outcomes.
Our mission is to help policymakers find solutions that make government more efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of real human beings.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsive Government is seeking an experienced manager available for a 12 month, 75% - full-time contract position as an implementation advisor. The compensation for the role is $7,000 - 9,000 per month, depending on experience. Responsive Government operates a virtual office, but the position is expected to involve ~25-35% travel. The expected start date for this position is October 2023.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The objective of the implementation advisor is to maximize the impact of reforms to modernize voter registration and election administration. The advisor will work with a team of fellows and consultants, in coordination with campaign strategists, to provide technical assistance in priority states as well as on limited federal initiatives.
One of the signature reforms Responsive Government works on is automatic voter registration (AVR). The advisor leads on coordination with state election officials and the covered agencies — principally motor vehicle agencies and state Medicaid agencies. Examples of technical assistance provided include working with agencies on application design and language testing to maximize registrations, consulting on back-end logic to help ensure ineligible customers are not inadvertently registered, and sharing best practices learned from the over 20 states that have implemented AVR systems previously.
We expect qualified candidates to have some, but not all, of the experience necessary to be successful in this position. The role of implementation advisor is best suited for candidates who get excited about process maps, design thinking, and enjoy working collaboratively with government agencies to achieve significant impact on voting rights.
