Founded in 1980, the Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth (BAGLY) is an organization whose programs are led by and for LGBTQ+ youth to meet the core physical, social, and developmental needs of the LGBTQ+ youth communities. Today, BAGLY is a nationally recognized leader in LGBTQ+ youth advocacy, providing community-based Youth Leadership Development, Health & Wellness, and Stabilization & Success programs throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As the Marketing Coordinator, reporting to the Senior Community Engagement Manager with the Development & Marketing team at BAGLY, you will help develop, implement, and measure BAGLY’s annual marketing and communications plan. You will largely assist in the creation of BAGLY’s outward-facing communications, including the organization’s social media presence, website, branded merchandise, and the marketing of its programs and services. You will also work closely with your peers, colleagues, and youth program participants to raise BAGLY’s profile and articulate BAGLY’s mission and impact.
The current expectation is that this position will be hybrid at the BAGLY offices in downtown Boston, MA. Work-from-home and remote office accommodations will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Successful applicants will live within reasonable commuting distance from BAGLY’s Community Center, or be willing to relocate. Occasional travel will be required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Digital Presence and Communications:
Website
- Consistently update, and improve BAGLY’s website in order to increase program participation and donor engagement;
- Assist in SEO and other digital marketing strategies to increase BAGLY’s reach.
- Create/facilitate rotating, fresh website content (blog, infographics, etc.) to establish BAGLY as a thought leader within industry/community.
Social Media
- Assist in the posting cadence and upkeep of BAGLY’s social media presence across 3 primary platforms - Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok;
- Keep up to date with any policy and interface changes made by Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok in order to keep BAGLY’s social media presence consistent.
- Report and Troubleshoot algorithm/advertising issues with social platforms (Meta)
- Report out metrics to the Senior Community Engagement Manager and Director of Marketing and Development on a monthly cadence.
- Work collaboratively with the Programs team to operationalize social media campaigns that increase youth participation and engagement with programs and events.
- Assist in the creation of digital campaigns to solicit donations and foster peer-to-peer fundraising;
- Support large-scale collaborative projects.
- Research existing and up-and-coming social platforms to replace Twitter presence.
- Assist in the planning and rollout of email campaigns related to:
- Program and event participation;
- Fundraising campaigns;
- Content designed to identify BAGLY as a thought leader in its field(s).
- Report out metrics to the Community Engagement Manager and Director of Marketing and Development on a monthly cadence.
- Maintain up-to-date listservs to limit bounce-backs/lowered engagement
Printed Materials and Branding:
Fund Development:
- Assist in the creation of design elements for mailing, email, and social media campaigns.
Programs and Services:
- Support the design, creation, and ordering of marketing materials to increase program participation;
Outreach:
- Work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to create materials and swag needed for outreach events;
- Create printed collateral/assets that target all inbound marketing personas (youth, donor, community partner)
- Attend outreach and other community events as needed.
- Ensure all community/corporate partners are followed on socials.
- Organize/maintain folders of all digital assets (photos) on the shared drive for media/press requests.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and guidance to BAGLY’s team of content creators;
- Provide oversight and guidance to interns, as applicable;
- Work closely with colleagues, peers, and across teams.
Other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but different combinations of work experience and education will be strongly considered.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate capabilities that meet the basic qualifications. Advanced qualifications are a plus, but not required.
Basic Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram;
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized;
- Consistent excellence working with teams and in collaborative environments;
- Demonstrated ability to navigate website hosts such as Squarespace;
- Competently translate digital images for physical product design and printed collateral;
- Consistent record of meeting non-negotiable deadlines;
- Experience working with young people or other marginalized communities;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a hybrid environment and remain productive and collaborative;
- Leverage events/news in real-time, to capitalize on trending topics.
Advanced Qualifications
- Multilingual candidates are a plus;
- Experience facilitating group activities or projects;
- Ability to create compelling images for marketing collateral using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite;
- Track record of assembling impactful reports from digital analytics reporting;
- Portfolio of successful collateral developed for fundraising and development campaigns
- Proven track record in adopting the voice, feel, and tone of the organization;
- Advanced professional experiencing using e-mail clients such as Constant Contact;
- Demonstrated ability with working on the back-end of Squarespace;
- Demonstrated portfolio of successful and completed projects with the organization’s stakeholders, including colleagues and youth leaders;
- Successful history of marketing programs and services to stakeholders that have been made vulnerable by structural oppression.
The starting salary will be determined based on how many basic and advanced qualifications are demonstrated.
