Job Description
Senator Andy Kim, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Disaster Management, Washington D.C., and the Census, seeks an experienced Professional Staff Member (PSM) to cover issues related to his role as Ranking Member and other Committee related issues as may be assigned. The PSM will provide analysis and guidance on matters related to the subcommittee’s oversight of Washington, D.C. and the Census while also identifying proactive areas for the Senator to engage in across the Committee’s jurisdictional landscape. This is not an entry-level position and previous experience with the issues that fall within the subcommittee’s jurisdiction is required.
The ideal applicant will think strategically, have extensive professional relationships throughout the subcommittee and full committee’s landscapes, excellent organization and communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.
Responsibilities:
- Advise the Senator on all matters within the portfolio.
- Work with the subcommittee’s Staff Director, the personal office’s Legislative Director, the Chief of Staff, and the Senator to identify strategic priorities and build and execute plans for achieving key objectives.
- Represent the Senator in meetings with government officials, constituents, and other stakeholders.
- Continue to strengthen their professional network to further the Senator’s objectives.
Preferred Experience:
- 5-7 years of relevant work experience and a law or other applicable advanced degree.
