Legislative Associate
Location: Sacramento
Type: Full-time
Experience Level: Mid-level (3+ years)
We are seeking a proactive and policy-savvy Legislative Associate with a minimum of three years of experience working in the California Legislature, ideally with a strong background in environmental policy. The ideal candidate will bring both policy knowledge and a proven ability to navigate the legislative process effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Track, analyze, and summarize legislation related to environmental, energy, and other policy areas as needed.
- Draft memos, talking points, and policy briefs on active bills and emerging issues.
- Provide strategic support for advocacy efforts, including stakeholder engagement and coalition building.
- Attend legislative hearings, briefings, and meetings; prepare notes and follow-ups.
- Coordinate with external partners, lobbyists, and agency staff to advance policy goals.
- Draft and edit comment letters, position statements, and other official communications.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in a legislative office, policy organization, or government affairs role.
- Demonstrated expertise or strong interest in environmental policy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.
