The New York State Assembly Member Stefani L. Zinerman is seeking an experienced Constituent Services Representative (CSR) to serve as the District Office liaison between constituents and State’s 100 agencies. The CSR will manage a caseload of constituencies including businesses and residents by responding to inquiries and resolving issues through investigation, intervention, arbitration, and facilitation. The selected candidate would also act as liaison with federal, city, and community-based organizations to ensure constituents are receiving seamless services.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Constituent Services Representative must be effective, efficient, flexible, and innovative in their approach to public service. The ideal candidate is an active and empathetic listener with knowledge of effective intake and referral practices and also, knowledge of community and government resources to assist constituents. The individual must possess strong organizational and technological skills including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and maintain consistent attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the Member’s primary representative to address the needs of constituents seeking services and resolution from various government agencies.
  • Coordinate effective and timely response to individual constituent inquiries, concerns, and requests for assistance (in person, via phone, email, and mail) within assigned issue areas.
  • Assist constituents with addressing a range of concerns including, but not limited to: housing, health care, social service, education, environment, and economic development issues.
  • Maintain relationships with district stakeholders, including local, state, and federal officials representing Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights (I.e., government agencies, community boards, block/tenant associations, non-profit organizations, etc., to ensure responsiveness to constituent concerns and quality service delivery.
  • Monitor and track constituent correspondence and related paperwork in an online database. Log all requests and maintain up-to-date files on all cases.
  • Conduct follow-up with relevant agencies to track progress and ensure resolution on all requests, providing thorough oversight from intake to final case closing.
  • Provide monthly reports for the Member and Chief of Staff on active and pending cases in assigned issue areas and update agency responses to inquiries and requests.
  • Identify emerging community issues and assess cases for trending problems that may require a more in-depth coordinated response or policy action and make recommendations to help guide the office’s response, as appropriate.
  • Represent the Assembly at select events and community meetings throughout the districts, as assigned;
  • Work in collaboration with the Legislative and District office staff to resolve constituent issues and to assist with planning and implementation of community outreach activities, town hall meetings, and other office-sponsored forums.
  • Assist with office administration and intern supervision, as needed.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of public service experience strongly preferred, (i.e., case management, community organizing, campaign, government, social policy, or nonprofit work experience)
  • Interest in social policy and familiarity with the issues facing the 56th Assembly District including knowledge of the areas including Community Boards 3 & 8;
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills, strong writing skills, and the ability to work flexible hours in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must be highly organized, thorough and self-motivated with a strong work ethic and demonstrated commitment to public service.
  • Excellent written and public speaking abilities with the ability to multitask in a high-pressure team-orientated environment are a must.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
