Marketing and Public Relations Manager

Job Relationships: Reports to Senior Director of Philanthropy. Oversees Volunteer Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

Outreach:

-Plans and attends offsite adoption events to help spread awareness of HSSM and the mission, programs, and adoptable pets

-Plans and attends offsite educational events such as career fairs for children, church and school festivals, etc.

-Plans and attends speaking engagements such as lunch meetings with local clubs/organizations

-Appears on local news networks for interviews

-Identifies ways to expand or improve HSSM programs and services to increase the community’s awareness and engagement more effectively

-Schedules/oversees community birthday parties on-site at the shelter ensuring prep of Indoor Play Area and Outdoor Pavilion

-Actively solicits donations at all events

- Responsible for reception and telephone duties

-Creates and maintains database and spreadsheet files.

-Provides reports when necessary.

-Process and acknowledge contributions.

-Record donor information into Donor Perfect.

-Reconcile credit card statements.

-Maintain pre and post event statistics and evaluations.

-Maintain up to date website information

-Monitors and makes adjustments and corrections to donor records when needed.

- Responsible for email responses and distribution to appropriate departments

- Performs work-related errands as needed

- Works alongside Senior Director of Philanthropy on event planning for fundraisers

- Interfaces and cooperates with other departments. Assists departments when shorthanded.

- Assures proper maintenance of shelter IT equipment, i.e. copy machine, telephones, computers, postage machine, fax

machine etc. and arranges for repairs as needed.

-Assist in creating advertising campaigns to increase adoptions, volunteers, donations, thrift store sales, etc.

-Assist with social media content for the organization and thrift store

-Assist with promoting thrift store sales and overseeing thrift store associates

- Maintain a cooperative spirit in working with staff, volunteers, and Board

- Assists in creating/planning social media posts, flyers, online promotions, etc.

- Supports Senior Management Team when needed

- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills

- Must agree with and be committed to the mission, policies, and goals of HSSM

- Must be energetic, team oriented and quality improvement minded.

-College graduate or equivalent experience with a minimum of two years experience in marketing, database, communications, public relations, or related field.

- Must be positive and flexible and able to handle difficult and sensitive situations with diplomacy and discretion

- Must be assertive, able to think strategically, prioritize, focus and be customer oriented

- Must have organizational, budgetary, and public and employee relations skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Must be able to relate and converse with the CEO, Senior Directors, Managers and associate staff in a positive and constructive way.

- Must have the ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with confidential information

- A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required

- Must have strong analytical ability to make sound decisions

- Must possess public relations skills and be diplomatic when dealing with individuals from all backgrounds.

- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

- Promotes communication and cooperation between HSSM departments

- Actively solicits donations, promotions, & retail sales

- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google products

- Strong organization and prioritizing skills required

General Expectations:

- Is flexible with scheduling and is available when away from the facility as needed to meet the needs of the organization

- Creates, promotes and follows safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment. Takes immediate action to address any

safety concern or non-compliance with OSHA safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client, animal, or organization at risk

- Promotes integration and engagement of volunteers

- Promotes communication and cooperation between HSSM departments

- Actively solicits donations, promotes sales in retail

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an animal shelter setting. Exposure to high noise levels and cleaning agents when in kennel area. Subject to animal bites and scratches. Computer usage. Exposure to zoonotic disease.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 per year

  • 8 hour shift
