Agriculture Policy Aide

Position Description:

The position will assist with various duties related to the management and representation of agriculture sector clients. Gordley Associates is a small firm that represents and manages agriculture trade associations and agriculture related clients. This a new position that is flexible, based on the candidate’s interests and strengths and provides the opportunity to work on a range of issues including farm programs, crop insurance, crop protection products, ag research, trade, biotechnology, food aid, biofuels, conservation and sustainability. The preferred job location is Washington, DC with flexibilities considered for qualified candidates. Some travel is required to attend trade association and industry meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties include some or all of the following: research policy issues; review federal legislative and regulatory proposals; draft letters, draft issue updates and position papers; participate in industry and coalition meetings; prepare and deliver presentations; track and report on agriculture and commodity markets. The policy aide will participate in industry and coalition meetings, identify advocacy research needs, prepare and deliver effective presentations, and interface with Congressional staff and Administration officials on programs, policies, and issues that impact farmers.

Legislative and Regulatory - Monitor and analyze legislation and regulations that impact crop protection products, biotechnology, new plant breeding methods, and other regulatory issues important to agricultural producers and industry.

Communications and Industry Coordination - Prepare updates and presentations for distribution to clients. Organize, promote, and lead initiatives with industry stakeholders. Collaborate with other commodity and farm organizations, seed and technology companies. Assist with planning and management of trade association board meetings and events.

Ag Economics and Market Development – assist trade associations with market analysis and development.

Required Qualifications:

Interest in food and agriculture policy and market development

Strong initiative, ability to identify and prioritize tasks

Ability to research issues and synthesize information

Good writing, computer, IT, communication, and presentation skills

Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of national and global food and agriculture markets and policies

Experience or interest in agricultural economics

Salary & Benefits:
